The AAU Sullivan Award has been given out since 1930 to the most outstanding amateur athletes in the United States. The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is one of the largest- non-profit volunteer sports organizations in the country. As a multi-sport organization, the AAU is dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports programs.
Johnson helped the United States women's water polo team to its second consecutive gold medal at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics. In the team's six games in Rio, she allowed just 28 goals, made 51 saves and was named the tournament's top goalkeeper.
In her time at Princeton, the Miami native has posted an 97-16 overall mark, turning away 1,320 shots she has faced en route to a 0.696 save percentage for Princeton. Putting together three of the highest single-season save totals in program history, the 2015 Collegiate Water Polo Association's (CWPA) Player of the Year is already the Tigers' career leader.
Princeton is 21-3 this season with 11 victories over ranked opponents. The Tigers are currently 10th in the CWPA Varsity Poll and recently reached the 20-win milestone for the 16th time in the last 19 seasons.
