Reynolds Earns NFCA First-Team All-Region Recognition
May 18, 2017 | Softball
In recognition of her outstanding senior campaign, outfielder Marissa Reynolds has been voted to the NFCA first-team All-Mid-Atlantic Region.Â
Reynolds, a first-team All-Ivy League honoree, is the first all-region Tiger since Alex Peyton '13 was a first-teamer in 2013. The Mid-Atlantic region includes 36 schools from portions of the America East, ACC, Atlantic 10, Big South, CAA, Ivy, MEAC and Patriot League.
Reynolds is hitting .457, good for fifth in the nation, is slugging .886, good for fifth nationally, has an on-base percentage of .574, which stands fifth in the nation, and is averaging 0.41 doubles per game, which is fourth nationally.Â
Reynolds' .457 batting average is in contention to finish as the best in program history, an honor now held by Linda Smolka '89 at .446 in 1989, and her 87 career walks are one short of the 88 that Tara Pignoli '95 received in her career. The Ivy League record for career walks is 89, set by Penn's Christina Khosravi in 2008.
Earlier this season, Reynolds became Princeton's first CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree since Candy Button '13 in 2013.Â
In recognition of her Ivy League Pitcher of the Year honor, senior Claire Klausner was named to the third team all-region. Klausner started the first game of every Ivy League doubleheader for the Tigers, piling up seven wins in Ivy play before throwing a shutout in the first game of the Ivy League Championship Series to beat Harvard 1-0 and help propel Princeton to an ILCS sweep.
