Lori Dauphiny Earns Ivy League Coach Of The Year; Championship 1V Claims First-Team All-Ivy Honors
May 22, 2017 | Women's Rowing - Open
Lori Dauphiny, who recently led Princeton to its league-best 16th Ivy League championship — as well as its fifth in the last seven years — was recently named the 2017 Ivy League Coach of the Year following Princeton's course record-setting Ivy title performance on Cooper River.
Dauphiny, who has led the Tigers to eight Ivy League championships in her 21 years as the head coach of Princeton open rowing, earned Ivy League Coach of the Year honors for the second straight time. She received the 2016 honor after Princeton stunned top-ranked Brown to earn that title on Lake Carnegie.
"From the recruiting process all the way up to my senior year, she has shaped us as people, and then shaped us as rowers," said senior co-captain Georgie Howe, who has been in the 1V for Princeton's last three Ivy titles (2014, 2016, 2017). "She is one of the best coaches in the country, if not the best. I feel very comfortable in saying that. She really cares deeply about the sport, and deeply about Princeton rowing."
Dauphiny, a two-time National Coach of the Year, will lead the Tigers back to the NCAA Championships for the 21st straight time this coming weekend at Mercer Lake; Princeton is one of only three programs to compete at every NCAA Championship regatta, and Dauphiny has been at the helm for each Orange and Black trip.
"Everything she has given us is honest feedback, and so we're striving for those moments of excitement and genuine satisfaction from her," said sophomore Claire Collins, a two-year member of Princeton's championship 1V. "She's a fantastic leader, and I know she'll get us to where we need to go."
Both Howe and Collins were also among the Tigers honored following the Ivy League Championships. Each member of the Princeton 1V earned first-team All-Ivy League honors, and they will lead the fourth-seeded Tiger 1V into a loaded field at the NCAA Championships this weekend.
Check back later this week for a full preview of the 2017 NCAA Championships.
