February 14, 2018 | Baseball
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers have been selected as the No. 6 team in the Ivy League Preseason Poll, the conference announced today.
A new Ivy League schedule format is now in place for the 2018 season as each team will play one another three times. The Red Rolfe and Lou Gehrig Divisions are no more. Ivy weekends will feature a doubleheader on Saturday and one contest on Sunday. Each Ivy game will be a nine-inning affair.
The top two teams in the conference will face off in the Ivy League Championship Series on May 19-20.
Princeton got major contributions from its freshman class in 2017 with David Harding, Conor Nolan, and Ramzi Haddad on the offensive side along with James Proctor and Eli Kimbell on the pitching staff. Ben Gross is back to lead the pitching staff as will Ryan Smith, who finished with 19 appearances in 2017.
Yale earned the top spot in the poll with 15 first place votes and 125 voting points. Columbia was second (101 points), followed by Dartmouth (1 first place vote, 92 points) and Penn (91). Harvard (50) was right in front of Princeton. Cornell and Brown were behind the Tigers.
Princeton gets the 2018 season underway at UNC-Wilmington (Mar. 2-4). The home opener at Clarke field will feature Harvard on Mar. 24.
