Charleston Edges Tigers 3-2 In EIVA Opener

Despite strong play by All-EIVA middles George Huhmann and Junior Oboh, each of whom had a team-best 16 kills, Charleston used strong play late in a couple sets to post a 3-2 home victory in the first match of a weekend pair Friday night. The EIVA opener for both sides went down to the wire, but it was the Golden Eagles who held on for the 22-25, 27-25, 25-21, 19-25, 15-12 win.
Oboh led the Tigers with a .542 hitting percentage, and he added a trio of digs in the match, while Huhmann had four blocks in the match. Sophomore Greg Luck continued his strong play with 12 kills and seven digs, and he added a pair of assists.
Three freshmen made their EIVA debuts, and two posted career highs on the night. Setter Joe Kelly paced the offense with 51 assists, while Cade Keegan led the defense with 17 digs. Jess Hunt added a seven-kill, four-dig effort from the outside.
