Two National Titles Highlight Princeton's Weekend at NCAA Championships
March 25, 2018 | Men's Fencing, Women's Fencing
Maia Chamberlain's and Kasia Nixon's saber and épée titles highlighted the weekend for the Princeton fencing teams at the NCAA Championships, which wrapped Sunday, at Penn State.
The titles, won Friday, were the women's program's fourth and fifth all-time, and it was the second straight épée title for the Tiger women along with Anna Van Brummen '17 winning last year. It was the first time in Princeton fencing history, men's or women's, that the program won two NCAA individual titles in the same year. See Friday's recap here.
All four women's fencers earned All-America honors, and Sunday, with sophomore Samuel Barmann finishing eighth, it brought the total up to five All-America honorees for Princeton's nine competitors in the field.
As a team, the Tigers rolled up 107 wins in the pool bouts to stand seventh in the 27-school field. Notre Dame won its second straight team title, picking up 185 wins to finish 15 in front of Columbia.
