Athletics Coaching & Programmatic Endowments
The Department of Athletics is incredibly proud of our unparalleled tradition of competitive excellence and commitment to Education Through Athletics. As such, Athletics recognizes the ongoing need to secure endowments to ensure the proper resources are provided to help student-athletes reach their peak potential.
There are two types of Athletics Endowments: Coaching and Programmatic. To ensure the ongoing success of all Princeton sports, the University seeks new endowed funds for varsity athletics and club sports. While annual gifts to Athletics bolster year-to-year program needs, endowment gifts are critical for the program’s long-term support.
Coaching Endowments
A gift of $2.5 million will endow a varsity head coaching position. An endowment gift of $1 million will provide similar support for a varsity assistant coaching position.
Â
Princeton’s nationally renowned coaches are dedicated teachers and mentors who support their students’ achievements in the classroom as well as on the playing field. In doing so, they contribute meaningfully to Princeton’s holistic educational mission.
Â
Endowed coach positions provide long-term sustainable support to our 38 varsity programs.
Programmatic Endowments
A programmatic endowment serves the department and individual teams well, in that it tends to be broad-based and designated to the highest program priority. A gift of $100,000 or more will establish an athletics endowment for programmatic support, which could be used for postseason, invitational, or international team travel, equipment purchases, recruiting expenses, and general team support.
Athletic Director's Fund for Excellence
A critical vehicle for providing the necessary support for Princeton Athletics is the Athletic Director’s (AD) Fund for Excellence. The AD’s Fund provides flexible support to the Department of Athletics and allows the AD to pursue a range of key strategic initiatives. These efforts include student-athlete mental health support, enhanced diversity, equity and inclusion programming, community engagement initiatives, and the updating and expansion of our multimedia/communications infrastructure. The AD’s Fund allows the Department to proactively address the shifting needs of student-athletes and coaches and raises the profile of Princeton Athletics on the national stage.
Â
Both term funds and endowed funds are sought for the AD’s Fund – with gift of $250,000 or more being directed to the endowment.
