VIDEO: Olivia Fiechter Battled Back From Injury, And She Is Sharing A Dream Senior Season With Her Team
January 30, 2018 | Women's Squash
Olivia Fiechter started her story brilliantly. She was the 2015 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, a first-team All-American, and a CSA individual semifinalist.
She is authoring a magical ending as well. Fiechter heads into Wednesday's match at Penn with a perfect 9-0 record, and her victory over Trinity helped the Tigers rally from a 4-1 deficit for their biggest regular season win in more than four years. That win helped Princeton ascend to the No. 1 ranking in the latest CSA poll, marking the first time the Tigers have been No. 1 since their 2013 Ivy championship season.
Of course, the middle of the story was a roller coaster ride for Fiechter, who didn't know if she'd get to climb the hill one more time. Injuries robbed her of her highest quality of play the last two seasons, and she was never really sure she'd get to experience one more year of the highest quality collegiate squash. She kept the faith, rehabbed tirelessly and tried to lead a young squad that was fighting back up the national poll.
