Rochester Tops Princeton; Tigers Await CSA Fate
February 17, 2018 | Men's Squash
The Rochester Yellowjackets closed the regular season with an impressive 6-3 win over Princeton Saturday afternoon in Hartford, a match that should impact seedings at the upcoming CSA men's team championships next week, which will also be held on the Trinity Squash Courts.
Rochester clinched the team win by the second shift, as it followed a 2-1 opener by winning all three matches of the middle shift. Freshman Duncan Joyce provided an early spark for the Tigers with a 3-1 win at the #6 position, but both Cole Becker and Komron Shayegan fell in tightly contested matches. Both Adhitya Raghavan and Cody Cortes took a game in their middle-shift matches, but neither were able to claim a win during the middle shift, when Rochester secured the win with a 5-1 edge.
Senior co-captain Abhimanyu Shah and junior Clark Doyle impressed in the final shift with wins, including a 3-2 victory for Doyle at the #4 spot. Each game of his match went at least 11-7 for the victor, and Doyle was able to top Lawrence Kuhn 11-8 in the final game for the win.
Princeton will now await its fate in the CSA team championships draw; the Tigers haven't competed in the A flight of the team competition since the 2013 season.
