Tigers Break 800 Free Relay Record, Cap Day 1 Of Ivy Championships In Third Place

A record-setting performance by the Princeton 800 free relay highlighted Princeton's opening session of the 2018 Ivy League Championships, held through Saturday night in DeNunzio Pool. The Tigers finished the night in third place with 106 team points, while Harvard, which won both relays, leads the Championships with 128 points.
The 800 free relay of Murphy McQuet, Charles Leibson, Zach Buerger, and Cole Buese finished their championship race in 6:21.84, which topped the previous record of 6:24.75, set by the 2009 Tiger relay during Princeton's victorious Ivy League championship weekend. The Crimson set an Ivy League record by winning in 6:16.78, while Yale finished second in 6:21.00.
The quartet of Sam Cuthbert, Corey Lau, Ben Schafer, and Alexander Lewis opened the Championships by taking fourth in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:27.35. Harvard won the event with an NCAA A-cut time of 1:24.52, while Cornell and Yale took second and third, respectively.
Princeton stands four points behind Yale after two events, while the trio of Cornell (102), Penn (100), and Columbia (100) are all within six points.
Thursday will be the first of three prelims/finals days at the Championships, and it will open at 11 am with the 500 free prelims. The full schedule can be found below, and all sessions will be streamed live on the Ivy League Network (see link above).
