The L. Stockwell Jadwin Gymnasium is a multipurpose athletic facility that has a combined floor space of approximately 250,000 square feet, more total area than eight football fields. It was formally dedicated in 1969.
Prior to the 2018-19 season, Jadwin Gymnasium underwent a renovation that included the installation of chair-back seats on the north and south sidelines, along with the addition of a center-hung Daktronics video board – the largest video screen of any Ivy League arena or any on-campus college arena in New Jersey.
The sublevels beneath the main grandstand hold one of the largest fencing rooms in the world, 11 international-sized squash courts with spectator galleries and a brand-new lounge area, six tennis courts and a baseball/softball practice area with a FieldTurf artificial surface. A new LED lighting system was installed over the basketball courts and indoor track in 2015.
The versatility of Jadwin Gym is highlighted by the variety of events that have been held there over the years. In addition to competition in both men and women’s basketball, tennis, fencing, squash, track and wrestling, Princeton has hosted professional basketball exhibitions the U.S. men’s and women’s collegiate squash championships, the women’s NCAA volleyball championships, the NCAA fencing championships, NCAA and EIWA wrestling championships and countless track meets.
Jadwin Gymnasium is connected to both DeNunzio Pool and Caldwell Fieldhouse.
Basketball
The Princeton basketball teams plays their home games in the 6,854-seat Jadwin Gymnasium, the second-largest on-campus college basketball arena in New Jersey.
With the student section opposite the team benches in the best seats in the building, Jadwin Gym gives the Tigers a true home-court advantage. Team rooms for both men's and women's basketball teams are located on opposite ends of Jadwin Gym directly off identical practice courts that bookend the main court. The team rooms feature meeting areas for film review, small kitchens and quiet spaces for studying.
The arena features a main entrance that opens into a lobby – which was renovated – and spacious refreshment area located under the reinforced concrete balcony of 3,500 permanent seats.
Fencing
The Stanley Sieja Fencing Room, one of the largest facilities of its kind, is housed within the sublevels beneath the main grandstand.
Squash
Jadwin Gymnasium serves as the home for Princeton squash, boasting 10 international-sized courts with spectator galleries, including a 175-seat glass backed exhibition court.
Princeton was honored as the site for the 1998 World Junior Squash Championships, which marked the first time the event had been held in this country. A temporary glass-walled court was constructed on the main level of Jadwin Gym so that spectators could view the competition from all four sides.
Tennis
Six indoor tennis courts are housed on E Level of Jadwin Gymnasium. The facility includes a scoreboard and sound system, and each court is a PlaySight SmartCourt.
Track & Field
Beyond the basketball courts is a six-lane, 200-meter indoor track that features a straightaway for sprints in the track’s infield. A throwing area with crushed red brick and a lifting facility specifically for the throwers on the track and field team are located on E Level.
Wrestling
After using Jadwin Gym for select meets in prior years, the wrestling program began holding all its competitions on the main floor of Jadwin in the 2022-23 season.
Princeton's 500th Ivy League title between all sports came from the wrestling program as the Tigers clinched the 2020 Ivy crown on Feb. 9, 2020 in a win over Cornell.
Jadwin had a venue for wrestling long before it became the full-time home of the Princeton wrestling program. It hosted the NCAA Championships in 1975 and 1981, the NWCA All-Star Classic in 2017, and was the longtime home of New Jersey's high school championships, last in 1991.
The Princeton wrestling room is located on E Level of Jadwin Gymnasium, including space for two mats, a weight-training area, and coaches' offices.
