PRINCETON, N.J. - Harvard did not give Princeton much of a Valentine's Day present as it defeated the Tigers 6-3 in the men's event and 5-4 in women's competition. Princeton's Peter Yik (Jr., North Vancouver, B.C.) won the first of only three Tiger victories for the men this afternoon at Jadwin Gym. Co-captain Amir Give'on (Sr., Herzlia, Israel) defeated Deepak Abraham in the No. 2 spot followed by fellow co-captain Alan Cantlin (Sr., Portland, Ore.) who took three of four games to top Grayson Witcher.
On the women's side, the Tigers picked up their first loss of the year this afternoon. Julia Beaver (So., Brooklyn, N.Y.) continued to lead the Tigers as she defeated Margaret Elias in the opening match. Princeton took the No. 3-5 spots with wins by Blair Irwin (Jr., Rochester, N.Y.), Meredith Quick (So., Lakewood, Colo.) and Liz Kelly (Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y.), who took Lindsay Wilber to five games before winning in the final game 9-4. Kelly won the first two games 9-0 and 9-1 before dropping games three and four by the score of 9-3 and 10-8, respectively, setting up the fifth and final game.
The men are now 7-2 in the year, posting a 4-1 league mark. With the loss the women drop to 10-1 with a 4-1 Ivy record.
