LANGLAS, THIROLF SHARE MILESTONE
June 16, 2000 | General
The date was Nov. 23, 1996, and Princeton was opening its women's basketball season against Georgetown. Freshmen Kate Thirolf (right) and Maggie Langlas (left) each scored her first career points.
Fast forward more than three years and 5,000 miles, to Dec. 23, 1999, in Honolulu. Kate Thirolf and Maggie Langlas, now seniors, each scored her 1,000th career point, again in the same game.
In Princeton's game against Fairfield in the Ala Moana Paradise Classic, Langlas became the 12th woman in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark when she hit a three-pointer with 8:37 remaining in the first half. Thirolf then became the 13th with three minutes to play in the game when she hit a three-pointer of her own.
Langlas and Thirolf have more in common than just their 1,000th point. They both made the league's all-rookie team as freshmen, and they have both been a second-team and a first-team All-Ivy League selection.
Of course, the last men's player to reach 1,000 points was Gabe Lewullis '99, who scored his 1,000th a year ago in the Rainbow Classic against Texas on the same Sheriff Center court at the University of Hawaii as the two women this year.
In other words, the last three Princeton players to reach 1,000 points did so on the same court, which just happens to be the Division I basketball court located furthest away from Jadwin Gym.
Who's next? Well, you could go with Chris Young or Spencer Gloger for the men and Maureen Lane or Allison Cahill for the women.
Just don't count on it being in the same game or at the University of Hawaii.
What would be the odds of that?
