New York, N.Y. - Yasser El Halaby made his highly anticipated debut as Princeton's No. 1 squash player as the Tigers swept to the title at the Ivy League's annual preseason tournament.
Princeton defeated Columbia and Cornell 9-0 before knocking off Yale 5-4 for the title. Yale had defeated Harvard 7-2 in a semifinal match.
Princeton won the 2002 Ivy League title, and their lineup features returnees Will Evans (2002 national runner-up) and David Yik (2001 national individual champion). The Tigers also have heralded freshman El Halaby, perhaps the most talented player in the history of the program.
El Halaby won all three of his matches at No. 1. Princeton won the top five matches against Yale, featuring seniors Evans (No. 2), Yik (No. 3), Dan Rutherford (No. 4) and Eric Pearson (No. 5).
