Water Polo Defeats Brown 10-8 to Close North/South Invitational

Princeton, N.J. - Four Tigers score two goals apiece as Princeton defeated Brown, 10-8 in its final game of the North/South invitational. The Tigers went 3-0 in the tournament, including an overtime victory over Iona and an 8-2 win over the Crimson of Harvard.
Brown jumped to a quick 2-0 lead in the opening minutes of the first quarter but Princeton goals by Dan McKenna and Kevin Foster pulled the Tigers even by the end of the opening period. Both the Tiger offense and defense stepped it up in the second quarter. Princeton scored four goals while allowing Brown only one and took a 6-3 lead into halftime.
By the end of the third the Tigers had increased their lead to 7-3 and with 3:44 remaining in the fourth quarter, Princeton was up 10-4. Brown managed to score four goals in the remaining time, tightening the score to 10-8 but the Tigers were able to hold onto the victory.
Foster, McKenna, Derrick Wong and D.J. Halliday each scored two goals in the win. Robert Urquhart and Jamal Motlagh each record one goal in the win.
Princeton will face some its toughest competition in the upcoming week as the Tigers head out west. Princeton will open its west coast trip against UC-San Diego on Friday, October 4. and will compete in the Norcal Tournament in Berkley, Calif.
