PRINCETON, N.J. - The men's water polo team led 2-0 over Navy, who it defeated twice this season, but went just three for 10 on its six-on-fives and finished behind, 8-6, in the championship game of the Inter-Regional Competition at DeNunzio Pool.
John Stover won the first sprint and the Tigers took a 2-0 lead off goals by Jamal Motlagh and Dan McKenna before Navy tied the score at 2-2 at the end of the first. Reid Joseph scored a goal in the second period to leave Princeton tied with the Midshipmen, 3-3, at the half.
But the Tigers went just two for six on their six-on-fives in the second half and scored just one goal in the third quarter to enter the fourth down 7-4. Chris Kelsch scored once in the third and once in the fourth and Peter Sabbatini made 10 saves in goal but Princeton lost 8-6 to a team it had beaten twice this season.
Princeton's next game will be at the Southern Championships at Bucknell on Oct. 31 through Nov. 1.
