Lock Haven, Pa. - The Princeton men's cross country team finished third overall in a field of 27 at today's NCAA Regional in Lock Haven, Pa. The Tigers finished behind Villanova and Georgetown with an overall time of 2:35.32 and 91 points. Senior Tristan Colangelo was Princeton's top finisher in ninth.
Villanova had the races second, third and eighth-place finishers to claim first. Georgetown was just two points behind them in second place. By finishing first and second, the two earned bids to the NCAA Championship race on Nov. 24 in Waterloo, Iowa. The individuals guaranteeing themselves spots in Iowa were Dan Mazzocco of Penn State, Andre Laboy of St. Joseph's, Ryan Sheehan of St. Francis (Pa.), and Colangelo. Princeton is also in the running for an at-large bid, which would mean the top seven Tigers would race in Iowa.
Colangelo finished ninth in 30:53, 27 seconds behind Mazzocco, the event's winner. Austin Smith was Princeton's next highest runner in 13th-place. Other Tigers were Ben Stern in 21st, Frank McCreery in 22nd, Jon Kieliszak in 26th, Peter Cioni in 40th and Jeff DiChiara in 59th.
