Princeton, N.J. - Cornell forward Ryan Vesce had three goals and four assists as No. 15 Cornell topped the Princeton men's hockey team 7-0 in front of 2,338 fans at Baker Rink Saturday night. Vesce opened the scoring at 11:46 of the first period and ended it at 16:14 of the third as Cornell improved to 2-1-1 and Princeton fell to 0-4-0.
Princeton came out of the gates strong, drawing several penalties in the early going. Princeton had four power plays in the games first 10 minutes, including 1:33 of 5-on-3 time, but could not capitalize. And as often happens in hockey, as soon as Cornell killed off the penalties, they had a good scoring chance and cashed in as Vesce scored off the rush at 11:46. Cornell added two more goals in the opening period, including Charlie Cook's first career tally.
In the second period, Vesce opened the scoring early at 1:05 with a power-play goal. Matt Moulson added a goal at 16:24. In the third period, it was Dan Glover and Vesce scoring to complete the night.
Cornell goaltender Mike McKee made 24 saves for the shut out and is 2-1-1, Princeton goaltender Eric Leroux made 25 saves in the loss. He is now 0-4-0 on the season.
Princeton (0-4-0; 0-2-0 ECAC) visits Harvard and Brown next weekend.
