St. Lawrence scored three times in each period to top the men's hockey team 9-4 on Friday night at Appleton Arena in Canton, N.Y. Mike Patton scored twice for the Tigers and Dan Hursh and Sebastian Borza scored the other Princeton goals.
St. Lawrence used a strong opening stanza to take a 3-1 lead after a period of play. Blair Clarance opened the scoring at 11:09 when he wristed a point shot through a screen past Princeton netminder Trevor Clay. Matt Macdonald took advantage of a scramble in front of the net to make it 2-0 at 13:47. Princeton took a timeout and clawed back within a goal 17 seconds later when Mike Patton caused a turnover at the blueline and scored on a breakaway. Stace Page answered back 1:30 later to make the score 3-1. The goal scoring continued in the second period with both teams adding a combined five goals. St. Lawrence scored first at 3:49 when Jim Lorentz was left alone in front and roofed a puck into the Princeton net. Dan Hursh answered for the Tigers at 6:11 when he wristed a shot from the off-wing over Kevin Ackley's shoulder. Steve Slaton and Neil McCann assisted on the goal. The Saints stormed back and TJ Trevelyan scored a power-play goal at 9:39 to make it 5-2. Again, Princeton rebounded and at 11:05, Patton tallied his second goal of the night, assisted by Chris Owen and Seamus Young. The scoring for the period was not yet over, and with 1:15 remaining Rich Peverly scored his second of the game to make it 6-3.
St. Lawrence extended its lead to four goals at 7:48 Simon Watson took advantage of a Tiger turnover to score a shorthanded goal. Princeton answered back 48 seconds later when Sebastian Borza tipped a shot by Hursh past Ackley. Jesse Masear picked up an assist. St. Lawrence came right back and reclaimed the four-goal lead 18 seconds later on Peverly's second of the night. The Saints' John Zeiler scored a power-play goal at 11:25 to make it 9-4.
Princeton visits Clarkson tomorrow night for its last regular-season road game of the season.
