Princeton, N.J. - Princeton broke open a close meet by taking six consecutive events and won its 41st straight dual meet by defeating Columbia 133-105 on Friday night at De Nunzio Pool. The win wraps up yet another undefeated season for the women's swimming and diving team, which finishes 9-0 heading into the Ivy League Championship meet.
Eight different Princeton swimmers won individual events and the 200-yard medley relay team got things rolling with a win in event one. The senior foursome of Michelle Nielson, Chrissy Holland, Margaret Hirce and Molly Seto took the race in a time of 1:48.60. Seto turned around and won event three, the 50-yard butterfly, in 26.12.
Seniors Meagan Donahue (50-yard freestyle), Kristy Wilson (1-meter diving) and Becky Wein (100-yard freestyle) all won individual events for the Tigers. Sophomore Amy Jones won the 100-yard butterfly while freshmen Whitney Ryan (200-yard IM), Eileen Altenburger (1:56.33) and Sarah Schaeffer (100-yard breaststroke) also took events on the night.
Princeton's 9-0 season marks the fifth consecutive unbeaten season for the Tigers and coach Susan Teeter. Princeton finished 8-0 the last two seasons, 9-0 in 1999-2000 and 6-0 in 1998-99. The Tigers, who have won three straight Ivy League Championship meets, host the 2003 conference championships Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 27-March 1.
