PRINCETON, N.J. - Yasser El-Halaby, the 2003 collegiate squash champion, swept every major postseason award possible to punctuate a brilliant first season at Princeton. The freshman was named to the All-Ivy Team as well as taking Player and Rookie of the Year honors, and joined senior teammates Will Evans and David Yik on the All-America First Team. Freshman Ruchika Kumar is also a first-team All-Ivy and All-America selection for the women.
Helping the Tigers to the Ivy League Title and a second place finish in the National Team Championship, El-Halaby and teammate Evans (Aukland, New Zealand) faced off for the 2003 CSA intercollegiate individual national title, with El-Halaby coming out with a 3-0 victory.
El-Halaby punctuated a highly impressive season with the win. The All-American led Princeton to the National Five-Man Championship and an Ivy League title by going undefeated at No. 1 in both runs. He won two of three matches against the 2002 national champion, Bernardo Samper, including wins in both the National Five-Man and Team Championships. David Yik (North Vancouver, B.C.) joins Evans and El-Halaby on the 2003 team.
