KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Greg Parker's run at an NCAA title fell short earlier today when he was defeated by Oklahoma State's Jake Rosholt in the quarterfinals of the 184-pound weight class at the 2003 NCAA Wrestling Championships at the Kemper Arena.
Rosholt, the tournament's 10th seed, pinned the second-seeded Parker at 2:20 to advance to the semifinals against Oklahoma's Josh Lambrecht. Parker was 1-0 this season against Rosholt before today, topping him 10-2 on Dec. 19 to win the Reno Tournament of Champions.
The loss relegated Parker to the other side of the bracket where he advanced following a 14-2 win over 12th-seeded Scott Justus. Parker then met Cornell's Clint Wattenberg for the third time this season. Parker, 2-0 over Wattenberg this season including a pin two weekends ago at the EIWA Tournament, lost an offensive battle 16-12 which placed him in the fifth-sixth match tomorrow.
Parker's opponent will be the loser of tomorrow morning's match between Oklahoma's Cliff Lambrecht and Ben Heizer, the ninth-seed out of Northern Illinois.
Parker, an NCAA finalist at 174 pounds last year, is now 25-6.
