Men's Water Polo Wins Three Games Saturday

Annapolis, Md. - The Princeton men's water polo team swept its three games Saturday afternoon at Navy. The Tigers opened the day with a decisive 11-5 win over Johns Hopkins and continued the day with one-goal wins over Salem International and Bucknell.
In the opener, Princeton pulled away from Johns Hopkins early to capture an 11-5 win. The Tigers executed well and used the margin to let a lot of players pick up playing time. Junior John Stover led the way for Princeton in the game with three goals, while junior Jamal Motlagh and freshman Zach Beckmann each added a pair of goals. Freshman Scott Syverson made seven saves in the game to pick up the win.

In the second game, the Tigers faced Salem International and needed overtime for their 14th win of the season. Salem played well and pushed the Tigers, but junior Dean Riskas scored in sudden-death overtime to lift Princeton to a 15-14 win. Beckmann and Stover led the offense with five goals apiece while Syverson made nine saves in goal.

In the final game of the day, Princeton edged Bucknell 10-9. Although the game was not decided in overtime, the Tigers did pull out a dramatic late victory when Stover scored the winning goal with two second left on the clock. The Tigers jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the game, but Bucknell rallied to tie the game at halftime, before Princeton earned the last-second win.
