Hamilton, N.Y. - Junior Dustin Sproat each had a goal and an assist as the Princeton men's hockey team fell to No. 13 Colgate 4-2 at Starr Rink. Colgate scored twice in the third period to break a 2-2 tie and post the win.
Colgate drew the games' first goal just 3:42 into the game. After Darryl McKinnon's blast went wide, Adam Mitchell picked up the rebound behind the net and scored on a wrap around for his sixth goal of the season. Kyle Wilson also assisted on the goal.
Princeton evened things up at the 9:58 mark of the period when Sproat scored on the power play. Sproat redirected a point shot by junior Seamus Young out of the air and by Colgate goaltender Steve Silverthorn. Junior Patrick Neudorfer also assisted on Sproat's ninth of the year. Sproat has scored goals in seven of his last eight games. Colgate pulled ahead 2-1 in the second period on Marc Fulton's power-play tally. Fulton collected a puck at the top of the left circle and after a few strides, took a shot that bounced off a Princeton skate and by Tiger goaltender B.J. Sklapsky. Kyle Wilson and Dave Thomas assisted on the goal.
Princeton evened up the score with a power play goal 58 seconds into the third period on senior Luc Paquin's fourth goal of the season. Sophomore Grant Goeckner-Zoeller carried the puck into the Colgate zone and fed it to Sproat in the corner. Sproat watched, as Paquin snuck in from the point and fed it across where Paquin one-timed it to knot the score up at two.
Colgate scored the game-winner at 7:46 of the period. Dmitry Yashin pulled the puck off the boards and took a few strides before depositing a shot high on the stick side. Colgate added an empty netter at 19:17 off of the stick of Dave Thomas.
Sklapsky made 24 saves while Silverthorn stopped 18.
Princeton completes the weekend tomorrow night at Cornell.
