No. 12 Princeton Falls to Sixth-Ranked UC San Diego in Men's Water Polo

La Jolla, Calif. - The 12th-ranked Princeton men's water polo team began a five-game stretch of games against top-caliber opponents in California with a 12-7 loss at No. 6 UC San Diego on Friday night at Canyonview Pool. Senior John Stover scored three times in the loss.
The difference in the game was the second period, in which the Tritons outscored Princeton 4-0. Chris Eichholz broke open a tie game in the quarter with two goals and Brandon Borso would add two more for the 6-2 UCSD lead at the half
In the first period, Princeton got on the board first on Stover's first of the game, but Borso would strike at 2:16 and Chris Finegold's goal with 1:41 left gave the Tritons a 2-1 lead. Stover added his second goal of the period to tie the game at 2-2 after one.
The Tritons took command in the second period as Eichholz netted back-to-back goals at 5:43 and 3:16 for the 4-2 lead. Borso then netted his second and third goals of the evening, the last just before halftime with :03 left.
The closest Princeton could get after the half was 9-5, but UCSD padded its lead late in the third quarter en route to the win. In addition to Stover's three goals, which rose his team-leading goal total to 30, Jamal Motlagh and Brendan Colgan each scored twice for Princeton in the game.
Princeton plays No. 8 Long Beach State and Cal Baptist on Saturday.
