PRINCETON - The Princeton wrestling team fell to 4-6 overall and 0-4 in the Ivy League when it lost 27-16 to Harvard Saturday at Dillon Gym. Charlie Wiggins and Jake Butler completed perfect weekends for the Tigers with individual wins.
Butler, the No. 6 wrestler in the EIWA at 197 pounds, opened the match by pinning Andrew Dane in 3:58. The Crimson, which fell Friday at Penn, came back with successive pins to take a 12-6 lead. Ryan Foss won a tight 2-1 decision for Princeton at 133 pounds, but Harvard took the next match when Michael Baria topped Eric Marcotulli 10-4. That set up a crucial match at 149 pounds, as Dominic DuNunzio and Princeton's Andrew Ianuzzi were even at 5-5 at the end of regulation. The Tigers needed the match, but it was the Crimson's DeNunzio who got the takedown and the 7-5 win.
Matt Button carried the momentum to a pin in 3:42 of Princeton's Tim Prugar, which all but put the match away. Charlie Wiggins (165) and Matthew DeNichilo (174) earned hard-fought wins, but the team outcome was no longer in doubt.
Princeton will try to back on the winning track next weekend, beginning with Friday's match against Rutgers. Saturday's match against Franklin & Marshall will be part of the 100 Years of Princeton Wrestling celebration.
