HANOVER, New Hamp. -- Junior Becky Brown scored 21 points at Leede Arena, Saturday night, as the women's basketball team drop a 78-63 decision to Dartmouth to conclude the 2004-05 season. Princeton slips to 13-14 on the season and 5-8 in the conference, while Dartmouth wins the Ivy League with a 16-9 record and 12-1 overall. Junior Katy O'Brien put the first points of the game on the scoreboard with a three-pointer from the top of the key. The Tigers led 12-8 following freshman Ali Prichard's first look at the basket. Prichard drilled a three from the right side of the arc.
During a three-minute scoring drought for the Big Green, Brown, who was double-teamed on the block found a wide open O'Brien on a cross court pass for another three-pointer. Princeton led 26-17 after the basket. Four free throws from Dartmouth's Angie Soriaga and a turnaround jumper from Elise Morrison cut the Princeton lead to 28-23 with 4:32 remaining. After a screen on the ball, freshman Ariel Rogers controlled the ball at the top of the key and fed Brown as she flashed in the middle of the paint. Brown made the basket and earned a trip to the charity stripe. Princeton went up 33-25 with 3:07 left in the first period. With Dartmouth in the double-bonus, Fatima Kamara earned two free throws and pulled the Big Green within two with a minute remaining in the first half. Krista Perry made a mid-range jumper for Dartmouth to tie the game at 33. Quick baskets from both Brown and Soriaga tied the game at 35 at intermission. Prichard ended a 9-0 run by Dartmouth four minutes into the second half, with two-consecutive three pointers from opposite sides of the court. Rogers made it a six-point game with off a baseline drive. Princeton trailed 49-43 with 14:31 left to play. Rogers drove the lane at the 6:56 mark and ended a six-minute scoring drought, where Dartmouth mounted a 20-point lead, 68-47. Sophomore Lillie Romeiser nailed a three-ball from the right corner and Brown made good on an one-and-one opportunity. Dartmouth held a 68-52 lead with 5:16 remaining in regulation. Jeannie Cullen of the Big Green added a boost for the home team off the bench as she hit two threes in the and scored nine points, all in the second half. Lockwood made a layup off an offensive rebound and was fouled for the old-fashion three-point play. Lockwood added another basket with a minute left to play, but the Tigers trailed 76-63. Princeton ends its 2004-05 season with six more wins than last season and compiled a 5-9 record in the Ivy League. Brown tallied her second double-double of the season with 21 points and 17 rebounds in the game.
