HAMILTON, N.Y. - Senior Sarah Butsch and junior Kim Pearce each scored in the second period as the Princeton women's hockey team erased a 1-0 deficit and defeated Colgate 2-1 on Friday night at Starr Rink.
Colgate's Sam Hunt opened the scoring in the first when she skated in from the right boards and sent a high shot over the shoulder of Princeton senior netminder Roxanne Gaudiel at 7:43 of the first period. Hunt was set up by freshman Elin Brown and junior Carly McNaughton.
The Tigers battled back and quickly evened the game just 52 seconds into the second stanza with a tally from Pearce. Senior Chrissie Norwich sent a shot at Colgate goaltender Elayna Hamashuk from the right side, Hamashuk went to the right to turn away the shot but it rebounded out to Pearce who was waiting at the opposite post and sent the puck flying into the open net before Hamashuk could recover.
Princeton went ahead when sophomore Marykate Oakley sent a centering pass to Butsch after deking a couple of Colgate defenders as they skated into the offensive zone. Butsch picked up the pass in the slot and wristed the puck over the blocker of Hamashuk at 9:48 of the second.
Hamashuk made 35 saves for the Raiders, while Gaudiel stopped 18 for the Tigers.
Princeton is at Cornell tomorrow at 4 p.m.
