PRINCETON - Tight wins by Marty Everin (165) and Matt DeNichilo (174) weren't enough to lead the Princeton wrestling team to a win in the regular season finale. Duke left Dillon Gym with a 27-12 victory, and the Tigers were left to focus their attention on next week's EIWA championships.
Duke jumped out to a 13-0 lead with wins in the first three matches, including a quick pin at 157 pounds by 157-pounder Addison Nuding. The Tigers climbed back into the match with consecutive wins, beginning with an 8-4 decision by Everin.
DeNichilo, who has been Princeton's most consistent performer throughout the last two months, followed it up with a 2-1 win at 184 pounds. That cut the deficit to 13-6, but Duke would take the next four decisions and forfeit the final match to clinch the 27-12 final score.
Princeton will head to Lehigh next weekend for the EIWA championships, which begin Saturday.
