David Leach, a veteran of two major Philadelphia universities with nearly two decades of experience in physical education, has been named Director of Campus Recreation at Princeton University, Director of Athletics Gary Walters announced.
Leach comes to Princeton from St. Joseph's University, where he spent the last 11 years as Director of Recreation with an Assistant Athletic Director title the last four years. Prior to working at St. Joe's, Leach served as Intramural Coordinator at Temple University.
Leach will replace Eric Stein, who left after nearly a quarter-century at Princeton to become the Director of Campus Recreation at Stanford University. Leach will oversee an area that sponsors nearly 40 club sports, sees nearly 75% of the student body compete in intramural sports and coordinates any number of other recreational activities for faculty, staff and students. The Campus Recreation office also offers instruction in areas such as aquatics, dance, physical fitness, sports and wellness.
During his time at St. Joe's, Leach served as director of recreational, intramural, sport club and outdoor programs for the university. He also oversaw the sports complex membership, athletic facilities, fitness center and instructional programs while also assisting with game-day operations for varsity athletics.
He served on university committees regarding facility renovation, alcohol use, safety, mentoring and service. Beyond just his work on-campus, he also has considerable experience as a consultant, speaker and lecturer, including coordinating the City 6 5K run and presenting at a conference on "Outdoor Recreation as an Alternative To Alcohol."
Leach graduated from Temple in 1990 with a degree in business administration, and he earned a master's degree from Temple in 1993 in sport and recreation administration.
