Jeff Halpern '99 Signs With Dallas
July 05, 2006 | Men's Ice Hockey
Former Princeton men's hockey great Jeff Halpern signed a four-year contract to continue his National Hockey League career with the Dallas Stars. Halpern had 11 goals and a career-high 33 assists in 70 games for the Washington Capitals last season, when he served as their captain.
A four-year letterwinner and three-time team MVP at Princeton, Halpern ranks first on the school's career games played list, third on the career points list (141) and career assists list (81) and tied for fifth on the career goals list (60). After graduating in 1998, he signed with Washington as a free agent on March 30, 1999.
Over his seven-year NHL career, Halpern has 87 goals and 127 assists in 438 contests.
"Jeff is a versatile center who adds solid leadership and experience to our roster," Stars general manager Doug Armstrong said. "He served as Washington's captain last season, so we like what he brings to our hockey club, both on and off the ice. We look forward to having him in Dallas for the next four seasons."
The other Princetonian to play in the NHL last season, George Parros, remains under contract with the Los Angeles Kings.
