Shorthanded Wrestling Team Falls In Tri-Meet At Duke
January 06, 2007 | Wrestling
The return of 141-pounder Danny Scotton was one highlight for the Princeton wrestling team on Saturday, but without either a 125- or 133-pounder, the Tigers couldn't make too many others against Davidson or Duke. Princeton was swept in Saturday's tri-meet, although it got two individual wins from Scotton and Jesse Palermo in the loss to Davidson.
Princeton was no match for Duke, especially after forfeiting at the bottom two weight classes. Duke added two pins and two major decisions to the forfeit wins to claim a 44-0 win. Princeton forfeited the same two weight classes to Davidson, but it was able to work its way back into the match with three straight wins. Scotton started the comeback with a 12-10 victory over Jim Avola, and Palermo followed it up with a 4-0 shutout win over Scott Matthews at 149 pounds. A forfeit win by Aaron Casp evened the team match at 12-12, but Davidson took control with three major decisions and a pin in the next four matches. A forfeit win for Kris Berr made the team score closer, but Davidson had clinched the team win at that point.
