Men's Squash Sweeps Dartmouth, Sets Up Sunday Championship Showdown With Harvard
February 10, 2007 | Men's Squash
A 9-0 win by the Princeton men's squash team Saturday against Dartmouth gave the Tigers the opportunity they worked all season for - a one-match shot at the 2007 Ivy League championship. The Tigers didn't drop one game along the way and won nine games by 9-0 scores, and now they will prepare for Sunday's noon showdown with Harvard, which defeated Penn 6-3 on Saturday.
While no member of the squad dropped a game along the way, the bottom of the Princeton lineup was especially strong. No. 7 Preston Comey, No. 8 Michael Gilman and No. 9 Tom McKay combined to win 81 of 85 total points, and freshmen Santiago Imberton and David Canner, playing Nos. 5 and 6, won half of their six games by matching 9-0 scores.
The bottom of the lineup will need to be strong again Sunday against a loaded Harvard lineup. The Crimson come into the match ranked second in the country, with its only loss coming to No. 1 Trinity by a 5-4 score. Princeton is just behind Harvard at No. 3, and the Tigers knocked off Harvard 5-4 last season by winning at every spot between 5 and 9.
Princeton would clinch its second straight Ivy League title and 12th overall with a win Sunday.
