Women's Swimming Completes Perfect Regular Season With Win At Columbia

Katie Giarra, Kelly Hannigan and Aurora Lee all won two events apiece to lead the Princeton women's swimming and diving teams to a 170.5-129.5 victory at Columbia Friday night in the Ivy League finale for both teams. The win completes a perfect league season for the Tigers, who will look to defend their Ivy League title next weekend when the championships are held at DeNunzio Pool Feb. 15-17.
Giarra opened the meet by winning the 3-meter competition with 316.5 points, and she followed later in the evening by winning a tight 1-meter competition with 287.63 points. Lee won a thriller over teammate Ellen Gray in the 200 free; Lee's time of 1:56.50 topped Gray's by .01 of a second. Lee would add a win in the 50 back (28.32) to complete the first double victory of her career.
Mary Cheffers (2:09.59) topped teammate Alex Wiley to win the 200 IM, and Kelly Hannigan topped a 1-2-3-4 Princeton finish in the 50 breast with a winning time of 30.96. Hannigan, swimming in her final regular-season meet, added a win in the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.77.
Lisa Hamming was the only competitor to finish the 100 back in less than one minute (59.97), and Justina DiFazio claimed the 50 fly in 26.62. Senior Sobenna George, also swimming her final regular-season competition, finished in style with a winning time of 12.51 in the 25 free. The final individual win of the day came from Courtney Kilkuts, who took the 100 IM in 1:01.28.
