Wrestlers Fall To Duke, Davidson At NYC Duals
January 11, 2008 | Wrestling
A victory for Mike Alvarez and a pair of forfeit wins were the
Princeton highlights during a tough day in New York City. The Tiger
wrestling program, which will break for finals before opening the Ivy
League season, fell 40-0 to Duke and 35-15 to Davidson Friday evening.
Alvarez, the junior 165-pounder, picked up his second win of the week with a tight 7-5 victory over Davidson's Kevin Cook. Princeton nearly pulled off a trio of other wins during the day, but freshman 125-pounder Tony Comunale lost a pair of one-point matches and senior Sam Ritter, who picked up a forfeit win over Davidson, also dropped a one-point decision.
A recurring issue for Princeton remains forfeit losses, as injuries continue to force head coach Chris Ayres to forfeit the 141-, 149- and 184-pound weights. Ayres is hoping to have a couple of injured wrestlers back in February, which would allow him to field a more complete team.
