May 08, 2008 | General
The annual Communiversity celebration, which brings members of the local community and Princeton students together in an annual outdoor festival celebrating town-gown relations, took place on Sat., April 26, on the Princeton campus and in the borough of Princeton.
The festival, held on Nassau and Witherspoon streets in Princeton, drew approximately 25,000 people.
The Princeton Department of Athletics participated in the event by conducting a Youth Sports Clinic in front of Firestone Library. Student-athletes from several teams conducted mini-clinics, where the demonstrated their skills and techniques.
"We all had a great time interacting with the kids in the community," said field hockey player Leah Hoagland '09. "It was a great opportunity to connect with the community and especially the kids. I loved the laid-back format. Some kids come for a minute, others had to be pulled away by the parents after 45 minutes."
In addition, the Princeton men's and women's basketball teams provided shooting drills, while the women's golf team helped teach proper grip fundamentals and other necessary golf skills.
Communiversity is sponsored by Princeton University and the Arts Council of Princeton. Merchants, non-profit organizations, musicians, performing and visual artists, food vendors and more than 60 University organizations and performing groups turned the area into a colorful fairground with events for students and families alike.
