Men's Water Polo Edged at Navy 5-3
October 18, 2009 | Men's Water Polo
The Tigers fell behind Navy 2-0 in the first quarter 3-1 at the half. Princeton worked to pull even with Navy, scoring once in the third quarter and early in the fourth to know the game at 3-3 before Navy pulled out the win with a pair of man-advantage goals late in the game.
Junior Jeff Cole scored two man-advantage goals for the Tigers and junior Matt Hale added Princeton's third score. Junior goalkeeper Mike Merlone made 11 saves.
Despite the loss, Princeton clinched first place in the Southern Division regular season standings. Princeton and Bucknell each finished their Southern season 6-2 and Navy, which is 4-2, can finish 6-2, but the Tigers have the tiebreakers in their favor against both teams due to goal differential.
