PRINCETON (1/5/10) -- Ninth-ranked Northeastern scored three goals in the first period to build an early lead, then dug in defensively for a 4-0 win over the Princeton women's hockey team despite 52 shots against.
Northeastern took advantage of its chances in the early going, converting with a two-man advantage 6:16 into the contest for the eventual game-wining goal. Brittany Esposito scored the power-play marker after a feed across the crease from Annie Hogan.
The Huskies made the lead 2-0 less than two minutes later when Casie Fields scored an unassisted goal from the blue line as her long shot deflected off a Princeton defender and into the Tiger net. Princeton picked up its play over the final two periods and controlled play territorially for the 40 minutes, firing 19 shots on goal in the second period and 22 in the third as the Tigers looked to get on the scoreboard.
The Huskies added a final goal in the third period when Kristi Kehoe capitalized on a turnover and scored on Princeton goaltendr Rachel Weber's short side.
Northeastern goaltender Leah Sulyma stopped all 52 shots she faced for the shutout.
