Volleyball Looks To Honor Seniors, Spoil Penn Season On Senior Night
November 17, 2010 | Women's Volleyball
It isn't often when Yale fans trade their Blue and White for the Orange and Black, but Bulldog volleyball fans just might do that when Princeton hosts Penn Wednesday night at Dillon Gym. While the Tigers will be honoring their Class of 2011, Penn will be looking to clinch a share of the Ivy League title.
Yale completed its Ivy League season 12-2 and has already clinched at least a share of the Ivy League title. Penn currently stands at 11-2 heading into the final night of the league season, meaning it must win to match Yale's record. Princeton, which stayed in the race until the final weekend and is the only team with wins over both Penn and Yale, will be looking to complete its season with a victory while honoring seniors Liz McStravick, CC Lobben and Carola Hernandez.
Princeton can also return a favor from three seasons ago, when Yale defeated Penn during the final weekend of the 2007 season to clinch the outright Ivy League title for the Tigers. While that Princeton team would become the only one to go through the Ivy season with a perfect 14-0 record, it was able to play the final two matches without any pressure of getting caught.
This will be a rematch from the Ivy League opener, when Princeton rallied from an 0-2 hole to sweep the final three sets against Penn at The Palestra. That victory ignited a five-match win streak to open the season for the Tigers, who will return six of seven starters next season. Sophomore outside Lydia Rudnick, who leads the Ivy League in kills this season, recorded 26 kills and 12 digs in the win, while junior Cathryn Quinn, who is coming off one of her best weekends in three years as a starter, added 18 kills and six blocks.
The match will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Dillon Gym, where Princeton is 6-1 on the season. Admission is free.
