Women's Hockey Falls in Opener at Boston University

BOSTON (11/26/10) - The Princeton women's hockey team fell at fifth-ranked Boston University 8-2 on Friday night at Walter Brown Arena. Julie Johnson gave Princeton a 1-0 lead and Heather Landry put the Tigers within a goal at 3-2 late in the first period but the Terriers added two goals in the second period and three in the third for the 8-2 win.
Johnson gave Princeton a 1-0 lead eight minutes into the game with her first goal of the season. The goal was assisted by Corey Stearns and gave Princeton a lead that would last 52 seconds before the Terriers knotted up the scored on a Meghan Riggs goal. Holly Looms and Jillian Kirchner scored two minutes apart to give BU a 3-1 lead before Landry trimmed the lead to a goal with less than two minutes left in the period. Gabie Figueroa and Sasha Sherry added assists on the goal.
Shots were 12-11 in Boston University's favor in the opening period but the Terriers took control in the second period, outshooting Princeton 10-5 and adding two more goals to build a 5-2 lead on tallies from Kasey Boucher and Jenelle Kohanchuk. BU then added three more goals in the final period for the 8-2 win despite Princeton outshooting the Terriers in the final stanza.
BU outshot Princeton 33-28 in the game. Kerrin Sperry stopped 26 Princeton shots for the win, while Rachel Weber stopped 25 of the shots she faced.
The loss drops Princeton to 3-8-1 overall. Princeton and Boston University conclude their two-game series on Saturday afternoon.
