No. 1 Trinity Tops Tiger Men's Squash 7-2 In National Semifinal
February 20, 2010 | Men's Squash
Despite a dream beginning for the Princeton men's squash team, it was top-ranked Trinity which moved on to Sunday's national championship. The Bantams trailed 2-1 after one shift, but they won the final six matches en route to a 7-2 victory.
Princeton got wins at No. 3 from Chris Callis and at No. 6 from David Pena, and it nearly got a pair of other victories, but Trinity once again proved to be too deep for the Tigers.
After Callis and Pena gave Princeton a 2-1 lead, senior Santiago Imberton led 2-1 at the No. 5 match; an Imberton victory would have assured Princeton at least a 3-3 tie heading into the final shift. Imberton turned an ankle in the fourth and had to default that game; though he managed to play the fifth, his mobility was severely limited and he fell to veteran Randy Lim.
With wins at No. 2 and No. 8, including another Trinity win from senior Parth Sharma, the Bantams needed only one win in the final shift to clinch the team victory. Senior Baset Chaudhry, the two-time reigning national individual champion, was impressive in a 3-0 victory over third-ranked Todd Harrity of Princeton. Trinity's Vikram Malhotra topped Kelly Shannon at No. 4, and Chris Binnie rallied from a deficit in the fifth game to win 3-2 at No. 7.
