Men's Squash Heads North For Ivy Showdowns At Dartmouth, Harvard
February 04, 2010 | Men's Squash
The final Ivy League weekend of the men's squash season will take the fourth-ranked Princeton Tigers to both No. 5 Harvard and No. 9 Dartmouth. Princeton needs a pair of wins to keep its hopes alive for a fifth straight Ivy League title.
The Tigers are 7-2 on the season, 3-1 in the Ivy League, but their tense 5-4 loss to Yale last weekend left them in an unenviable position in the league race. Not only will Princeton need to sweep this weekend's opponents, but it will need Harvard to upset Yale on Feb. 13.
For Princeton, working its full lineup back into game shape is as important as winning this weekend. Considering all of the injuries that has plagued his team this season, head coach Bob Callahan is thrilled to see his full lineup back on the court. While the fate of the Ivy League title might be out of his control right now, Callahan is hoping to have his lineup peaking by the time the national team championships come around (Feb. 19-21).
Dartmouth is 8-5 overall, 0-3 in the Ivy League, and is coming off three straight wins as it prepares to host Princeton Saturday at noon. Christopher Hanson plays No. 1 for an improved Big Green team that lost tight 6-3 matches to both Cornell and Harvard.
The Crimson enter the weekend with only two losses on the season, a 7-2 loss to No. 3 Rochester and a 9-0 loss to No. 1 Trinity. The Crimson is strong at the top once again, with senior Colin West one of the leading threats to win Ivy League Player of the Year honors. It is quite possible that his match with Princeton freshman Todd Harrity could end up determining that honor for 2010. In the Crimson's loss to Rochester, there were several tight matches in the middle of the lineup that all went to the Yellowjackets, meaning Harvard has the talent to compete with anybody.
