Women's Basketball Goes A Perfect 14-0 in the Ivy League

PRINCETON, N.J. (3/9/10) - Sophomore Lauren Edwards scored 20 points and freshman Niveen Rasheed had a double-double as the Princeton women's basketball team closed out the regular season with a 68-51 win over Penn on Tuesday, March 9 at Jadwin Gym.
Following the game, the Tigers were presented with the Ivy League women's basketball championship trophy and cut down the nets, following a perfect 14-0 Ivy League season. They are one of just three teams to go 14-0 in the Ivy League.
It was senior night for Tani Brown and Cheryl Stevens and they didn't go out quietly. Brown finished the game with a career-high nine rebounds, four assists and four points. Stevens had a career-high seven blocks to go along with four rebounds, two points and two assists.
Rasheed had 18 points and 11 rebounds, and junior Addie Micir was also in double figures with 12 points. Freshman Lauren Polansky led the team in assists and steals with four and two, respectively.
Princeton started the game on a 19-5 run. Penn had four straight points to cut its deficit to 10 with a little more than five minutes to play in the first half. However Princeton took back over going on a 13-5 run during the next four minutes to grab a 32-14 lead with 1:18 to play. Smith hit a free throw with 42 seconds left to send the teams into the locker room with Princeton leading by 17.
Less than 10 minutes into the second half, Princeton earned its largest lead of the game, a 36-point lead, 58-22. Penn scored eight straight before a layup by junior Krystal Hill ended the Quakers' run at 8:04 to make it 60-30.
The Quakers hit another shooting streak with an incredible 18-0 run over a span of 5:04 to make it 60-48 with 3:08 remaining. Princeton would close out the game scoring five of the last eight points for the 68-51 final.
The Tigers shot 34.8 percent from the floor, 75 percent from the line and 32 percent from long range. Princeton won the rebound battle, 53-45.
Jess Knapp had a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds for Penn. She also picked up four steals and one block. Sarah Bucar has 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Jerin Smith led the team on the glass with 15 rebounds. Overall, the Quakers shot 29.2 percent from the floor, 50 percent from the line and 23.5 percent from behind the arc. Penn finishes it season, 2-26 overall and 1-13 in conference.
Princeton improves to 26-2 overall and improves its win streak to 21. The Tigers will learn its NCAA fate when the selections are made next Monday, March 15 at 7 p.m., on ESPN.
