Wrestling Prepares For Road Weekend; Saturday Match Moved To Noon
January 05, 2011 | Wrestling
After its best dual match win in more than a decade, the Princeton wrestling team will return to the mat this weekend for a pair of road matches at both Clarion and Franklin & Marshall.

While the final event of 2010 was the Southern Scuffle, where both Garrett Frey and Daniel Kolodzik placed eighth, Princeton's last team match was an 18-16 victory at Bucknell. Senior captain Travis Erdman, who is in the middle of the best season of his career, pulled off a critical 8-6 overtime victory at 184 pounds to give Princeton its final key points in the road victory. That followed wins by Frey, Kolodzik, Tony Comunale and Zach Bintliff, and it gave Princeton some positive momentum moving into 2011.
Princeton will look to build on that momentum when it takes on Clarion (Friday, 6) and Franklin & Marshall (Saturday, 12) this weekend; Saturday's match was moved from 1 to noon. Clarion is 1-0 after completing mostly in tournaments, while Franklin & Marshall is 0-4 on the season.
Frey, ranked 13th at 125 pounds and the reigning EIVA finalist, comes into the weekend with a 19-4 record and will be looking to reach his second consecutive 20-win season. Princeton has five other starters with at least 10 wins, including Kolodzik, a 2010 All-Ivy honoree who already has 15 victories on the season. Junior Andy Lowy returns to the lineup, while Dan Santoro (197) and Charles Fox (285) will be looking to bolster the top Tiger weight classes.
Clarion has five wrestlers with at least 13 wins, including 157-pounder James Fleming, who has won 19 of 21 matches this season. Joe Waltko has 17 victories at 133, while Bekzod Abdurakhmonov is 14-4 at 165 pounds.
Jake Bucha is the top wrestler at Franklin & Marshall, where he has won 11 of 12 matches at 133 pounds.
