Third-Ranked Tigers Look To Stay Perfect Against Dartmouth, Harvard
January 12, 2012 | Men's Squash
The third-ranked Princeton men's squash team is coming off its best road win of the season, a 6-3 victory at Rochester. It will be looking to carry that momentum into an even bigger duo of games, as the Tigers look to stay undefeated in the Ivy League with matches at both Dartmouth and Harvard.
Princeton is currently 6-0 this season, 1-0 in the Ivy League, and has wins over two Top-10 teams in both No. 8 Franklin & Marshall and No. 4 Rochester (6-3). The win at Rochester last Sunday was especially satisfying to head coach Bob Callahan because of the impressive performances of his younger players. In the first shift, he sent out sophomore Dylan Ward with freshmen Tyler Osborne and Taylor Tutrone — a trio that played all of two varsity matches before this season — and watched them combine for a 3-0 Princeton lead.
Of course, Callahan also got convincing wins from his upperclassman leaders, including the 26th straight collegiate win for junior Todd Harrity, the reigning CSA individual national champion. Senior co-captain Chris Callis also scored a hard-fought win at the No. 2 position. Callahan is hopeful that fellow co-captain Kelly Shannon could return to the lineup this weekend.
Dartmouth is 3-1 on the season and is coming off an 8-1 loss to Harvard. The Big Green did show impressive fight in a 5-4 win over Franklin & Marshall, a match that included two five-game victories for Dartmouth. Junior Chris Hanson plays No. 1 and is one of the most talented players in the country, while No. 2 player Nick Sisodia scored Dartmouth's only win over Harvard.
Harvard is currently 9-0 and has won 80 of 81 individual games, including the last 63 games. Sophomore Nigel Koh made his debut at No. 1 in Harvard's last win and swept matches against both Northeastern and Boston University. The Crimson started one junior and no seniors in those victories. The Crimson can make a big statement in the next two weeks; six days after taking on Princeton, Harvard will travel to Hartford to take on No. 1 Trinity.
