Pankowski Nets Game Winner as Women's Hockey Defeats Robert Morris

PRINCETON, N.J. (1/30/12) - Freshman defender Ali Pankowski scored the game-winning goal in the second period to give the Princeton women's hockey team a 3-2 win over Robert Morris on Monday, Jan. 30 at Baker Rink.
It was the Tigers' first game of the spring semester, returning to the ice after a 16-day break. Princeton improves to 9-10-4 overall as six players earned points in the game.
Senior Danielle DiCesare gave Princeton a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 14:25 of the first period when she tipped in a shot by junior Kelly Cooke. The Tigers would maintain the 1-0 lead throughout the period, which included 49 seconds of 5x3 action in the final few minutes.
Sophomore Rose Alleva gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead with her second goal of the season less than six minutes into the second period. Alleva scored off of a face off to the right of goaltender Kristen DiCiocco, with sophomore Denna Laing drawing the puck back to the boards for her teammate who wristed one past glove side
Maddie Collias cut the lead back to one less than two minutes later, when she scored with help from Jolsin Jamie. Collias skated in 1x2 and fired a shot in the slot that skimmed off of goalie Rachel Weber's shoulder and under the cross bar.
Pankowski netted the game winner at 9:52 as Princeton was on the power play. Junior Corey Stearns had the puck in the left corner and centered it for Pankowski who fired past DiCiocco's blocker. It is Pankowski's first career game-winning goal and second goal of the year, for the rookie who leads the team in assists.
The Tigers dominated the first two periods, outshooting the Colonials by a combined 23-12 margin. Robert Morris came out of the second intermission determined to score with a 12-6 shooting edge, and less than two minutes into the period they did just that. With an interference call on Julie Johnson carried over from the second, Thea Imbrogno was able to capitalize with help from Rebecca Vint.
Weber would make her biggest stop of the game, stopping a Maddie Collias shot at the near post following back-to-back blocked shots as the Colonials fought for the game-tying goal.
The odds would swing in their favor at 18:58 when Princeton picked up an interference call. As Heather Landry skated to the penalty box, DiCiocco skated the bench, as Robert Morris took a 6x4 advantage.
The Tiger power play held strong, blocking four shots and the fifth going wide.
Weber finished the game with 22 saves for the Tigers. DiCiocci stopped 26 in net for Robert Morris, which falls to 14-8-2 on the season.
Princeton plays its final road games of the regular season this weekend, Feb. 3 & 4, traveling to Dartmouth and Harvard.
