Stearns Scores Twice as Women's Hockey Tops UConn 4-1

STORRS, Conn. (1/3/12) - Senior Corey Stearns scored twice as the Princeton women's hockey team defeated Connecticut and snapped a four-game winless streak on Thursday, Jan. 3 at Freitas Ice Forum.
Senior Kelly Cooke and freshman Molly Contini each had a goal and an assist as the Tigers improve to 6-10-2 overall.
Sophomore netminder Ashley Holt earned her first career win, making 17 saves.
Cooke put Princeton on the board first at 8:58 with an unassisted goal, but Michela Cava tied it up at 1-1 at 13:43.
Stearns put the Tigers back up on top with her first goal at 4:08 of the second with help from Contini and sophomore Brianne Mahoney.
In the third period, Contini pushed the lead to 3-1 when she scored on a feed from Cooke at 16:32. Stearns sealed the win with an empty-net goal with 2:20 remaining.
Princeton outshot Connecticut 31-18. Sarah Moses made 27 saves as UConn falls to 3-15-2 overall.
Princeton will travel to Harvard and Dartmouth on Jan. 11 and 12, the final games before the Tigers' semester break.
