October 26, 2013 | Men's Water Polo
The No. 15 Princeton men's water polo team concluded Southern Division-East play with a 17-7 victory over George Washington Friday at DeNunzio Pool. The victory improves the Tigers to 15-4, 7-1 Southern on the year, while dropping the Colonials to 10-8, 3-3 Southern.
Princeton will conclude the home slate on Saturday with a doubleheader versus Northern Division rivals Fordham at 11:30 a.m. and Iona at 4:30 p.m. Prior to the Iona game the Tigers will host their annual Senior Day ceremony honoring the Class of 2014.
Jovan Jeremic had a team-high four goals, while Sam Butler, Drew Hoffenberg and Bret Hinrichs each notched a pair.
In a game where the offense was in the driver's seat, the Tigers distributed the ball well and both Kurt Buchbinder and Hoffenberg finished with team-best three assists apiece.
On the defensive end, Alex Gow made eight saves on 14 shots on frame over his three quarters of work to improve to 8-3 on the year. In the field, Nelson made three steals to lead Princeton's nine-steal effort.
The Tigers managed the game and lead throughout, going up 5-2 after the first quarter. Building up its momentum, Princeton extended its advantage with a five-goal second quarter to hold a 10-3 lead at the break.
Any GW attempt to slow down the Tigers was ineffective, as Princeton's scoring by quarters again came with a five-goal third and a 15-5 lead.
Still in command, but with its foot off the scoring pedal Princeton closed out the game with a 2-2 fourth quarter to close out the game with a 10-point victory.
