Princeton Opens In Fifth In First Learfield Sports Directors Cup Standings

Princeton sits fifth in the first Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings for 2013-14 after getting points in field hockey and men's and women's cross country.
Princeton has 156 points, leaving it fifth, just 4.5 points away from second, in the early going.
Colorado is currently in first with 172 points after winning men's cross country and coming in seventh in women's cross country. Michigan State is second at 160.5, followed by Providence (158.5), Virginia (157) and then Princeton.
The Tigers received 60 points from field hockey after reaching the quarterfinals. Princeton also received 52 points for men's cross country's 22nd-place finish and 44 points for the 30th-place finish by the women.
The Directors' Cup uses NCAA championship placing and participation to determine the top overall athletic programs in the country.
Princeton finished 35th in Division I a year ago and has been the top Ivy League finisher 17 times in the 20 years the Cup has been awarded. Princeton has also finished in the top 40 15 times in 20 years.
Stanford has won the last 18 Cups.
