LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The 10th-ranked Princeton men's water polo team improved to 14-3 on the season with a pair of wins over No. 11 University of California-Davis and No. 9 University of California-Irvine.
Opening the day with a 9-8 decision over UC-Davis, the Tigers held off UC-Irvine in the nightcap (11-10) to lay claim to ninth-place at the 2014 SoCAL Tournament. Earlier this season at Brown's Bruno Fall Classic, the Orange and Black edged out the Anteaters in overtime, 14-12.

Holding on in a closely contested match, the Princeton men's water polo team earned a 9-8 decision over UC-Davis. With the game knotted at 3-3 after the first quarter, Princeton notched a pair of goals in the second period to take a 5-3 lead into the intermission. Up 8-6 after three quarters, the Tigers surrendered two of the contest's final three scores, but held off a late charge to claim a 9-8 decision.
Thomas Nelson paved the way for the Princeton offense with three goals. Sam Butler had a pair of tallies, while Jordan Colina, Curtis Fink, Jovan Jeremic and Connor McGoldrick accounted for the other four Tiger goals. Drew Hoffenberg nabbed a team-high four steals, while Nelson drew four ejections.
Making five saves in the first period, Mitrovic added two more in the second. Making one more in the third period, the freshman goalie finished with eight saves. Relieving Mitrovic with 3:23 left in the third, Jeremic made a save. Playing the final eight minutes in net, Bret Hinrichs stopped a pair of shots.
"This was a great team effort," said head coach Luis Nicolao. "We're really proud of how everybody stepped up once we were hit with some adversity and lost Vojislav [Mitrovic] for the game."

Down 5-4 at the intermission, Princeton notched seven of the final 12 goals en route to a 11-10 decision over ninth-ranked UC-Irvine.
Drew Hoffenberg, Jovan Jeremic, Jamie Kuprenas and Jordan Colina each scored a pair of goals for Princeton, while Thomas Nelson, Kayj Shannon and Connor McGoldrick accounted for the Tigers' other scores. Colina won all four sprints for the Orange and Black, while Sam Butler recorded a team-high four steals. Hoffenberg also added two assists.
Logging three saves in the first quarter, Vojislav Mitrovic made five stops in the second period. Tacking six more over the final 16 minutes, the freshman goalie finished with 14 saves.
